- Do you have any idea how important this was, do you have any clue?
A matter of life and death… No luck at Big W.. but Target… you can always count on Target…
- Calm down, Marty, I didn't disintegrate anything. The molecular structure of Einstein and the car are completely intact.
Not sure about the molecular structure of the grey matter that is pike’s brain…
- Wait a minute, wait a minute, Doc, are you telling me that you built a time machine out of a Deloreon?!?
Sigh…
- Alright, alright, okay McFly, get a grip on yourself. It's all a dream. Just a very intense dream.
This nightmare.. it sucks me in… pulls me under…
- Just relax now Calvin, you've got a big bruise on you're head.
* throb *
- Doc, she's beautiful. She's crazy about me.
If only…
- Anything you do could have serious repercussions on future events. Do you understand?
A life without consequence.. hmmmm...
- Shape up, man. You're a slacker. You wanna be a slacker for the rest of your life?
Some things you cannot change…
- Silence Earthling. My name is Darth Vader. I'm am an extra-terrestrial from the planet Vulcan.
I dreamt this last night…
- My density has popped me to you.
You’re on a winner.. why can’t you see?
- You know, if you put your mind to it, you could accomplish anything.
Bullocks…
- Have you ever, uh, been in a situation where you know you had to act a certain way but when you got there, you didn't know if you could go through with it?
Loser… coward… sad-case… no-hoper… a washout…

It's just a simple line..
I can still hear it, all of the time..
If I can just hold on tonight..
I know that nothing, nothing survives..
Nothing survives..
Surely it can't be this hard...
I think I'm turned around..
I'm looking up, not looking down..
And when I'm standing still..
Watching you run, watching you fall..
Fall into me..
Surely there must be a way...
Then I make it something worth while..
I am displaced.. I am displaced..
And I make it something worth while..
In this chase.. I am displaced...
... to save me.......

Since when is it a crime to walk into a police station to ask for a breath test?? This is what I had to resort to the other night, as I feebly attempted to prove to my friends that I was ok to drive.. Sure, I had a couple of drinks (over 3 hours, I might add!).. but quite clearly, I was fine... What was worse was the reaction I received from the lady cop sitting behind the desk...
I didn't expect everyone to follow me through the door.. but they did... and I'm not sure if it was because they were making a bit of a racket as they walked in behind me, or the fact that we were all Asian, but the copper stood up straight away (almost reaching for her holster)... She looked quite stunned.. and confused... It was like, "What the f&$% do you think you're doing?!"
I guess it's not everyday you have to walk into a police station.. but that is not the kind of reaction one would expect... In the end, she gave me a five minute lecture on why you should not even be contemplating driving, even after one sip of any form of alcohol... What else can I do but stand there, look pretty, and nod.. "uh huh... yeh..... right... cool..... cheers..."
A couple of things to come out of this incident...
Think twice before walking into a Police Station with a bunch of friends.... but more importantly.. perhaps it's that time again to review the amount of alcohol intake I am currently consuming when I'm out having fun... I mean, it's not so much that I drank excessively on this occasion, but the mere fact that my friends were concerned must say something... My previous self-imposed 4-drinks-a-week-rule was successful as it taught me control... It would be sad to see me having to go back to it....

Top 10 Gig Moments:
10. Tim Rogers - Opera House (around xmas, 2000)
A solo acoustic show featuring his own stuff from What Rhymes With Cars And Girls and a bunch of You Am I favourites, including Purple Sneakers and Cathy's Clown...
9. Jeff Buckley Tribute - The Metro (29th May, 2002)
On the anniversary of Jeff's untimely passing.. a tribute show was organised by the fan club (apparently it's an annual event)... Of course, no one will ever come close to replicating Jeff's presence on stage, but there were some decent performances that night... Highlights were Eduardo Santone with The Way Young Lovers Do and Opened Once with the aid of a keyboard.. Simon Ditcham (yes, of Scandal'us fame) with Morning Theft.. Matt Anderson's delightful rendition of Your Flesh Is So Nice.. and Mick Hart with Je N'en Connais Pas La Fin...
8. Ratcat - Sydney Showgrounds, Big Day Out (26th January, 2002)
Along with silverchair, these were the guys I really wanted to see at the BDO.. and while silverchair were a tad disappointing (mostly due to high expectations), Ratcat were excellente... They started off with some unknown songs, but finished with a flurry of old favourites like That Ain't Bad, Don't Go Now, and Tingles... It was worth it just to see Leanne go completely off her rockers...
7. Coldplay - Hordern Pavillion (8th August, 2001)
This show meant a great deal to me, for personal reasons... Coldplay are developing a reputation as one of the world's great live acts.. and although Chris was most definitely E-ed out of his brain, they gave another solid performance... Channel [V] made a live recording of this show, but unfortunately the cameras managed to miss our charming faces... Best of the night were, See You Soon, In My Place, Shiver, and Chris calling the band's sick manager back in the UK was a nice touch...
6. Jewel / Steve Poltz - The State Theatre (sometime in 2000)
I remember being so nervous about seeing Jewel for the first time (I do believe I was in love with her at the time).. but on the night, Steve Poltz almost stole the show... Apart from me almost knocking Denise over when she called everyone out to the front of the stage, I remember her wonderful duets with Steve (You Were Meant For Me and Life Uncommon), and her infamous Cold Song as part of the encore... Steve opened for Jewel and performed songs like Me And Eddie Vedder, I Thought I Saw You Last Night, and The Star Wars Song...
5. Kasey Chambers - The Metro (8th March, 2002)
Kasey had just returned from The States on a whirlwind tour.. she had a No. 1 song on the Aussie charts.. and she lived up to all expectations... This gig was also her last one before giving birth to her beautiful son, Talon... The Nullabor Song nearly brought tears to my eyes.. She explained that the song was written about her childhood years of growing up in a van on the plains of the Nullabor, travelling from town to town... Other beautiful moments were A Million Tears, The Captain, and Powderfinger's These Days... Her dad accompanied her perfectly on the lead guitar...
4. Evan Dando - The Metro (15th October, 2001)
The Lemonheads helped define music in the 90s and this show was a must-see... Evan played all the Lemonheads oldies, with the pick of them being Into Your Arms, The Outdoor Type, Big Gay Heart, plus Suzanne Vega's classic, Luka...
3. Powderfinger - Hordern Pavillion (20th October, 2001)
This was one hellova show.. Something For Kate opened the show for them and there was no looking back from there.. Each song was played with precision, and there was a refreshing intensity about the whole performance (SFK included)... Favourite moment was These Days, with Bernard on the keyboard.. and some beautiful harmonising by Darren.. Other cool moments were Bernard letting the crowd know that 'The Man' Mundine had won his fight that night after the boys played Like A Dog.. and a smashing rendition of Split Enz's History Never Repeats...
2. Grinspoon - Eastwood Hotel (sometime in 1999)
The Grinners at their best.. they played hard.. they played loud... and it was my first taste of the moshpit... That says it all really... Here I was, the little Asian that I am.. being tossed around like a rag doll.. but freakin' hell, it was fun!
1. Ben Harper - Melbourne Showgrounds, Offshore Festival (13th April, 2001)
Had to painfully sit through (or stand, as it were) Bomfunk MCs.. but I did it.. I got up to the very front to see Mr.Harper in action... The next 2 hours was pure bliss... Another Lonely Day, Burn One Down, Steal My Kisses, Sexual Healing.. he did 'em all... It's hard to think of any other performer who can hold the audience's breath like Ben can.. The intimacy he shares with the crowd is quite astonishing... I should also point out that I drove all the way down to Melbourne to see this show...

The "chick" on the right side of the banner above is Jessica Alba (aka "Max" on Dark Angel).. just in case anyone wanted to know...
High emotion as boys restore rugby pride - Now this is more like it!
Maybe it is not as bad as people are making it out to be (yep, pike included).. If all the High teams showed this kind of determination and fighting spirit, they may not be in the position they are in now... Well done 14A! and good to see the other sporting teams (eg soccer) going to support their fellow students...
According to this report and a few others over the weekend, it is suggested that a number of schools, and not just in the GPS, are systematically targetting gifted rugby players from other areas, to strengthen their own teams for a better chance at the various championships.. This is widely known as "importing".. Joey's have been accused of this practice for years now.. and it looks like some of the other major schools around the country are finally following suit.. This goes against everything that is good about schoolboy rugby...
How does this effect High? Well, for starters.. there will be more blowouts (not in their favour).. As the article explains, the strong will get stonger and the weak, ever so weaker... High will never be able to match the other schools in attracting the best young rugby talent in the state.. but they can hold their head up high, by producing their own.. Just as they did in '93 and '94...
SBHS may be making the headlines for all the wrong reasons right now, but as long as students like the ones in the 14A's team (with names like Gordon Ngan and Ian Kwok) keep on flying the school flag with pride and integrity.. there may be hope for our school just yet...

Isn't it strange how your musical tastes can be so readily be influenced by your friends? Eg, I was introduced to Jewel years ago by someone I was supposed to be teaching guitar.. Before that, I never really took much notice of her.. but after one listen of "Pieces Of You" (one of the best debut albums of all time), I was hooked.. She was fresh.. she was unique.. and yes.. she was a cutie... ;)
More recently, my good ol' pal
Mish introduced me to
The Sundays. That was about 2 weeks ago, and since then, I have downloaded nearly 20 of their songs.. Their 3rd album in particular, "Static & Silence", is filled with delightful tunes, and covers a whole range of emotions.. The singer (sorry, I forget her name) has the sweetest of voices.. and their music has been likened to The Smiths... Unfortunately, since their last album (released in 1997) not much has been seen or heard from them...
Over the rooftops a plane in the sky..
Beat of a bass drum cars passing me by..
Under a bridge dark then back into light..
A river of raincoats and a forest of faces..
Still for a moment then red into green..
Slow shuffling shoes whisper sight unseen..
Row upon row of houses return an empty stare..
Let me daydream for a little while longer...
I hope I never wake..
When I'm thinking about you...

Another one joins the mayhem we call our "blog-niverse".. (you know who you are..) Apparently, a new weblog is created somewhere around the world every 40 seconds.. Some believe blogging will overtake mass-media in the not-too-distant-distant-future.. The mind boggles... An interesting article
here.

Played
Rapidoh (TM) the other night... For those who don't know, it's just like
Pictionary (TM), but instead of a pen and paper, you use a big (or little) bundle of play-doh... and oh yeh.. I suck at it!
"Gumby! He was just a little green ball of clay.. Gumby! You should see what Gumby can do today... GUMBY! He can walk into any book.. with his pal Pickle, Pokey, and Goo.. If you have a heart then Gumby's a part of you...."

Selection row as Sydney Boys get caught between Joeys and a hard place - What a sad sad state of affairs...
Back in '93 and '94 (Pike's senior school years), High pushed Joey's all the way for the championship in both years.. and Scots College were also very strong, celebrating their centenary in '94.. Some outstanding names came out of the three schools..
Joey's - Shepard, Rogan..
Scots - Bowman.. and from
High.. well.. what can I say? What a champion side that was... Marc Stcherbina, Jason Jones-Hughes, Chris Whitaker, Duncan McRae, Luke Mann, Carl Murray, Evan Jones.. the list goes on...
I can recall one crisp winters day at Hunters Hill in 93.. Joey's are in the lead 15-0 in front of a massive crowd (they say it was around the 6,000 mark).. But Sydney High, led by future Australian Schoolboys captain Stcherbina, storm home to win it 22-15, in one of the greatest rugby games ever played on the grounds of the famous school... It was pure jubilation when the referee blew the fulltime whistle... I joined in as hundreds of boys, young and old, surged onto the field as one, to hold our heroes aloft... It was a wave of high emotion I have seldom experienced, but one I will never forget...
But those days are now long gone... SBHS is not the same school as the one I attended in the early 90's... Pride is no longer in the sky-blue & chocolate jersey, but in the one piece of paper that dictates the rest of your academic life... Being an Asian (and a Korean at that) who attended the school, I am fully aware of the sort of ideology created by pressures from parents and fellow schoolmates... But there remained a nice balance.. an almost perfect balance between striving for academic excellence, an awareness of the community's needs, and most importantly, a sense of school pride...
Sydney High is still a great school.. Boys are constantly topping the state in the HSC... But quite clearly, something has been lost here... And although a game of rugby is not the be all and end all of a school's status in the eyes of the public.. a change is badly needed... Whether this means a different approach in the selection criteria of boys into the school, or a more stringent interview process, I do not know... Bob Outterside (my former principal) and the OBU (Old Boys Union) have been in the papers lately and have been accused of using the race angle.. I am not about to get into a race debate here (we'll save that one for another day), but I believe it is important to acknowledge that the school cannot continue in this manner for too much longer...

Managed to catch
Planet of the Apes (1968) again on Encore the other night... Cool.. it has definitely been a while...
This really is a great movie!! Not only is Nova (
Linda Harrison) a total babe.. but it is littered with wonderful imagery and thought provoking moments, and should be up there with the greatest pieces of science fiction.. like.. ever!

Still all smiles after yesterday's magnificent win.. It's strange, ya know.. despite the scoreline, I felt that we have played better in the past, and that I've seen Newcastle play worse than they did yesterday.. And it's really refreshing to see the press talking up our chances (finally!).. Check out some of the articles written about Kimmorley and his heroics -

Does it get any better than this?? Sharkies absolutely pumped the Knights 64-14 in front of a national TV audience.. Joey was made to look like a passenger out there, while Noddy proved once again that he IS indeed the form halfback of the competition.. 11 tries in all in a record breaking afternoon for the Cronulla Sharks...
I've decided to create a
blog devoted to the Sharks' run into the finals.. After 35 long years, 2002 could be it...

Things to avoid when you're trying to get over a sore throat :
Prawn chips ; Maggi noodles ; salty squid ; packet of BBQ Samboy chips ; schooners of Tooheys New ; singing a song way out of your vocal range at some karaoke joint..
Yes, I have consumed/drank/participated in all those things in the past 48 hours..

Can't sleep.. again... There's a classic season 5 XF episode (
#5x19 - Folie A Deux) showing on FOX8... Ahh.. I forgot about the XF repeats on in the middle of the night..
This is one of the better ones.. and spooky too... This is the one where Mulder gets taken hostage by some dude who claims his boss is.. wait for it..
a monster...
The best thing about this ep is the quotes.. Plenty to choose from but here are the picks of the bunch...
MULDER: Monsters. I'm your boy.
---
MULDER: Scully, you have to believe me. Nobody else on this whole damn planet does or ever will. You're my one in… five billion.
---
MULDER: What did you tell him (Skinner)?
SCULLY: The truth … as well as I understand it.
Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup..
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe..
Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind..
Possessing and caressing me...
Images of broken light which dance before me like a million eyes..
They call me on and on across the universe..
Thoughts meander like a restless wind inside a letterbox..
They tumble blindly as they make their way across the universe...
Sounds of laughter, shades of earth are ringing through -
my opened ears.. Inciting and inviting me...
Limitless, undying love which shines around me like a million suns..
And calls me on and on across the universe...
Jai Guru Deva Om...
Nothing's gonna change my world...
- J.Lennon P.McCartney J.Powell
I could sure use help like
this at the moment.. (Trying to configure a couple of laptops)...
Yes.. back at work today... I miss my couch.. I miss my blanket.. I miss Mulder & Scully...

Me thinks
Catriona Rowntree is a lot better candidate for Sally (Peanuts Character Quiz) than I am.. eg. "
I tend to annoy anyone in my path" ... and... "
I live in my own little world."
Anyway.. it turns out that I have an IQ of
123.. That's less than Fatty Vautin (127), or Red Symonds (134) ... Shame, shame, shame, Pike....
Other results of note from the
National IQ Test were... men are smarter than women (thx scoop!)... and size does matter - taller people tend to be smarter than us shorties...
It's a silly quiz anyway, run by amateurs.. A waste of time really... I'm sure it would've rated its arse off...
At home sick.. Throat feels like sandpaper.. Legs are useless.. Mommy.....

The new Chili Peppers CD,

The Sharkies are on a roll.. Phil "
Goose" Gould's foiled
attempts to derail us have proven fruitless.. CA has instilled a winning attitude at the club.. Noddy, Peach and co are playing out of their skins.. Joey Johns (aka Newcastle) will not know what hit them come Sunday arvo...

"could've been something.. nothingman.."
Never been able to grasp the concept of
*nothing*.. Can it exist? If it does exist, isn't it something?.. Is nothing the opposite of something? Or is it the flipside to everything?.. Where does nothing end and something begin?..
They say in order to meditate, one must focus on nothing.. Does nothing only reside in our minds?.. Is nothing the space between our every thought?..
As my mind descends into nothingness.. I leave you with this thought.. Nothing is the unattainable bliss that won't ever come...
"No man is an island, for no man can exist on his own"
- J.B.Jovi
A boy seeking for meaning, a boy searching for direction.. The sea is treacherous, and the nights bitterly cold… The boy craves attention, his show must go on… Not enough units, in this cruel cruel world…

Just an update on last night's tennis.. It was close all the way, but we got through, thanks to Ming and Sarah winning the 2nd last set 7-1.. Jacqui and I only needed one game in the final set and the pressure was right off.. We now have a week off, and will play the final the week after...

Hey.. check this out..
When I saw the break of day
I wished that I could fly away
Instead of kneeling in the sand
Catching teardrops in my hand
My heart is drenched in wine
But you'll be on my mind
Forever...
Can't get this song outta my head (
Don't Know Why) I only discovered
Norah Jones a few days ago.. but she's fast becoming one of my favourite artists.. A bit of jazz, a bit of swing, a bit of folk, and one heck of a voice.. She has it all..
